The War In Your Mind

Yesterday as I was driving I couldn’t help but think about all that is going on in this world. My mind kept going to the war and all the unrest not only in our country but all over. It wasn’t but within a few minutes that I began to feel worried, stressed, sad, anxious and fearful inside. Then, something profound dawned on me. I realized I was fighting my own war. I was fighting a war taking place in my very own mind. It’s a battle between faith vs. fear, trust vs. lies, worry vs. peace, and negativity vs. positivity. When I realized that my mind was in battle I realized that I actually have control to overcome. I realized that I have the power to accept or reject my thoughts. It’s all a matter of being aware of what I am thinking about and if it is aligned with what I want out of life. We are all fighting this same war in our mind everyday and each one of us has the power within to win. We get to choose everyday what we want to focus on. The fact of the matter is, your life is always moving in the direction of your most predominate thought patterns. If you are primarily negative, your life will reflect mostly negative circumstances. Conversely, if your thoughts are predominately positive you will see more positive circumstances in the movement of your life. What is key to recognize is that you cannot have a peaceful life if your thoughts are rooted in worry. You can’t have positive attitude if your thoughts are predominately negative. Instead of dwelling on the war, I changed my thoughts and focused on things that I have control of. For example, the continued growth of my coaching practice. By focusing on what I have control of, I can take action towards what I want. I realized I couldn’t be fretting over the war and the state of our economy and be excited about ordering new company brochures at the same time. I took back control of my thoughts. The thoughts that were not beneficial to what I want, I cast them out and replace the with thoughts of what I do want. You can also win the war in your mind if you practice this same technique. We cannot stop our mind totally from having unpleasant thoughts but we can choose to reject the thoughts that do not foster the greater good for ourselves and our family. “As someone thinks within himself, so he is.” Proverbs 23:7
