Tips to Stay Positive

In case you haven’t noticed, there is a lot going on in the world currently which is creating a lot of negativity, stress, and anxiety. All the talk about supply shortages, money shortage, energy shortages and every other kind of shortage can be discouraging to say the least. The word “shortage” in and of itself is negative to our unconscious mind that is always working behind the scenes. It creates a feeling of lack which then creates negative emotions of discouragement, hopelessness, frustration, sadness, etc. The great thing in all this is that we control what we choose to focus on. The first thing to remember is where there is a shortage, there is opportunity. Opportunity to gain. Stay focused on what can be gained from the shortage or lack you are experiencing. For example, with the holidays fast approaching you may currently be in a position of financial lack because of the state of our current economy. Rather than focusing on the tremendous financial stress that can come with the expense of the holidays, focus on creativity and relationships rather than material items. Studies have shown that people would rather have a meal and good conversation with the people closest to them instead of a material gift from them. Personally speaking, my loved ones’ attention and time are priceless gifts. In shortage you can strengthen bonds and relationships which is the greatest gift ever. Second, keep in mind that it is not possible to be stressed out and peaceful simultaneously. Focus on peace by remembering your blessings. Repeating the phrase, “Feeling blessed keeps me from being stressed.” This is a great affirmation you can use all through the day keep your mindset positive. A third great tip for staying positive is to focus on what you CAN DO and not on what you CAN’T DO. It is as simple as resting. Yes, resting. If worse comes to worse and you cannot think of one single thing you can to do feel better or be productive, it could be a sign that the best thing you can do is rest your mind and your body. Get out of your head and get into a good book, a positive movie or get your thoughts out of your head and down on paper with some journaling. Finally, in my opinion the greatest thing you can do to stay positive and moving forward is to focus on and grow your unique purpose in life. If you are fortunate enough to know your purpose, make it a priority to strengthen it. If you are struggling to know what your purpose is, you can start now on working to discover it. Start by making a list of your talents and passions. That is a good start. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28.
