Everyone Has a Heart
I recently got back from a nice vacation. It was so enjoyable! It was fun, relaxing and entertaining. Of course, when I go on vacation, I expect fun, relaxation and entertainment but this time I found my trip to be enlightening. At the airports, the markets in Mexico and hanging out at the resort pool I couldn’t help but notice people. ALL the various people, from every walk of life. Every culture, class, all types of nationalities, religions and so on. In all my observation I noticed we all have one thing that interconnects us in humanity. We all have a heart. I know that sounds obvious but let me clarify. Logically, I realize we all have a physical heart beating inside our body to keep us alive. My inspiring moment, however, was remembering that inside everyone’s beating heart is the desire for love, happiness, and human connection. I saw a local man running after his baby son on the beach speaking a language I couldn’t understand but the laughter and actions of both said it all. At the pool, we met a man and his family. He followed his cute little daughters around with every step keeping a protective fatherly eye on them. His lovely wife nearby with a smile on her face. We met another couple in the lobby. They had loving eyes at each other and loving eyes to the world. We found so many things in common I’m excited to meet up with them again. Of course, when you are on vacation or at the beach it’s easy to be fun loving and conversational but what about at work in an industry under extreme pressure, the airline industry. The young lady at the counter was trying with all her might to fix our messed up seating arrangement. In a jovial manner she commented that she was on the verge of quitting. She had a very rude co-worker at the counter, barking orders at her. I was appalled at his behavior honestly. This young lady was tired and a little disgusted with things, yet she showed us kindness with eye connection. Expressed apologies about the seat trouble and her rude co-worker in her voice and had a real desire from her heart to help us to the best of her abilities. In all this I remembered that at the end of the day, we all want love, happiness, and human connection. Even the rude co-worker at the airline counter. Obviously, he would benefit from some stress management coaching, but I digress. Remembering our core human heart desires helped me not get upset with rude co-worker and it made me want to hug the young lady trying to help us. It warmed my heart to see the fathers caring for their children. It made me eager to listen and ready to connect. The trip lightened my outlook on life, especially at this point in time. If you are stressed, upset, frustrated with life just know you are not alone and show yourself grace first. Also remember that even others who are being rude and frustrating you the most are themselves just longing from their heart. If you practice the mindset “everyone has a heart” it just may enlighten and brighten yours.
