Life is a Process
In my coaching practice I talk a lot about taking all things step by step and day by day. I have learned that most everything in life is a process. I believe accepting this fact is a key mindset which minimizes frustration and anxiety more than you can imagine. So, why do so many struggle with this concept of taking things one step at a time and accepting life as a process? It is my estimation that a large reason for this is that we live in a society that demands things to happen right now. Everyone seems to want something and they want it right now. That’s why fast food and instant messaging, were invented. We are programed to think in terms of now and the faster the better. It’s an instant gratification world and often when things don’t happen as quickly as we’d like, it can lead to stress, frustration, anger and anxiety. Taking on the mindset of “life is a process” eases some of the pressure. Practicing this mindset is particularly helpful when you are personally working on a project or working toward a goal that you have. This mindset is a form of self-kindness. We tend to be too hard on ourselves and demand ourselves to get things done now and perfect as well. Taking on this mindset will help you stay focused and minimize frustration and discouragement toward yourself. Exercising this mindset is also a great way to grow one of the fruits of the spirit, patience. Embracing this mindset is a form of self-love. A bonus to this mindset is that, as you begin to be more patient with yourself you will naturally become more patient towards others as well. The first part of 1 Corinthians 13:4 states, “Love is patient, love is kind…” We tend to forget that this also applies to how we should act toward ourselves.
