Trust Your Gut in Times of Uncertainty
There is so much going on in the world at this particular moment in history that it is almost mind blowing. I have heard and read things in the news that seems totally unreal like a SIFI movie has come to life. From artificial intelligence taking over Google, to brain chips, to aliens among us and underground portals being open in Geneva to create black holes by particle acceleration. What? There are wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes and famines and of course, pestilence. To Bible readers that last sentence might sound familiar and can 100% be taken as truth. What do you do with the rest of this stuff? Is it true? I am not a highly educated person but my gut tells me that I need not worry or fret about black holes or aliens. Easier said than done, right? Here is a tip to help you relax and focus on what truly matters. First, I’d like to remind you of an article I wrote a couple of months ago called “Fact Check Yourself”. This means actually becoming aware of your own thought patterns and analyzing if what you are thinking is really fact. The thing is, the majority of the time, we don’t have enough information about a particular situation to make a definite conclusion. Most often there are missing pieces of the puzzle and so many unknowns that a definite decision or conclusion cannot be made for lack of information. When you start feeling anxious or worried about what you are seeing around you, use the mindset of fact checking yourself back to what you know is fact. I can personally say that, these days, there are only a few things that I can count on as definite fact. When I focus on the things I know as fact, such as, the people I have near me the majority of the time love me and care for me, this brings me comfort. I keep that as my focus and I think about ways I can be of support to them and show them how much I love them back. Another thing that I personally know is fact is that many things in nature are truly perfect. With that in mind, I focus on finding the perfection and rare beauty around me in nature. This helps me relax and feel peaceful. Lastly, I focus on growing my faith beyond the things I see. I have an internal gut knowing that says, no matter what, my time here on earth is temporary and there are things waiting for me that are greater than I could ever ask or think. “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” Ephesians 3:20
