Looking for a Little Peace

Does your mind race constantly from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed? Then, even as you try to go to sleep you can't seem to shut off your brain? Are you worrying about everything from your health and your family's health to your future, and just what this world is coming to? Are you distracted and can't think clearly and can't focus for all the concerns you have. Do you ever just say to yourself, "Geez, if I could just get some peace!" Well, you are not alone if that is the case. As a life coach, I get asked often how to stop a racing mind. That seems like the million dollar question these days but the fact is, it really is not that hard once you believe one simple principle of life. If you embrace and accept this one principle as truth and not waver, you can attain the peace you are longing for. Just what principle is this, you ask? The future, that is to say tomorrow, only exists in our imagination. There is no guarantee that tomorrow will come to pass. Yes, it's true, we have plans for weeks to come, things on the schedule and the sun should rise in the morning to then live out the plans that we have written down in our handy planner. Here is the thing though, we do not know the day or the hour in which the world as we know it will come to an end. That is just the simple fact of the matter. We simply cannot know what God has in store even as we sleep at night. Knowing this fact makes it easier to let go of worry and anxiety to just focus on the present moment. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that you neglect responsibilities that take planning and effort to accomplish. My suggestions that we go back to Jesus's teaching and not worry about tomorrow as tomorrow will worry about itself. I do know, however, that many people are actually going through various kinds of difficult trials right now, but take heart, God is very near to those in the midst of a storm. No matter what your circumstances are right now, sit back and take a few deep breaths and know that all mighty God of the universe is in control and you are on the side of victory with every breath you take. Accept that victory with gratitude and there you will find a little peace.
